A Wise Scientist Can’t Be an Atheist

By Rayyan Tilde

I was creating a program that has over 100 distinctive models and was troubled as to how difficult it was to create a unique product structure for each model because each model comes with many unique characteristics. I became more amazed as to how humans were created to handle an unlimited amount of models.

Whenever I’m programming and came across complex programs, I marvel at God’s ability to do things without limit, His perfection and the fact that whatever he designed, you will come to realize that it is the most perfect way to do it. I sometimes look at his creations and say “Indeed, God is the greatest.”

There is a verse in the Quran which indicated that scientists have more reasons to fear God. In Suratul Fatir, Allah (SWT) said:

‎إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْعُلَمَاءُ

Ulama here according to some scholars doesn’t mean scholars but scientists. Personally, I believe this is because a scientist have seen real practical reasons to believe in the creator due to the fact that he is dedicated to studying nature — which is God’s creation, thus being among those that should fear Him the most.

In Romans, which is the sixth book in the New Testament, it’s said: “Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made.” Romans 1:20

Indeed if we are to look closely at anything He has created, we should have more reasons to believe in God.

Any programmer knows how complex creating a program that can think on its own is, it’s nearly impossible as of today (if we will really tell ourselves the truth). Artificial intelligence is literally a bunch of if and else statements. Apart from the ability to think, creating a program with trillions of models, with each model (being) having a distinctive pattern of experience is nearly impossible. Let’s not even talk about emotions and sense of smell.

Despite the fact that we are currently living in the most technologically advanced civilization, we are yet to perfect any of our innovations to God’s standard. The human eye is far superior than any camera out there. Our ears and vocals are far better than any sound system created.

Every creation of God is exceptional. Even the ant that we undermine is something extraordinary because there’s no technology that will be able to mimic that tiny creature. The motor that will be needed to drive the tiny creature will have to be nearly invisible.

The truth is most scientists know that nature is well designed to the extent that rejecting the fact that it doesn’t have a creator is just an act of covering the truth.

In recent years, I realized that whoever has witnessed the stages of pregnancy from the first trimester to the last, has seen a significant miracle that is enough to stand as a proof for the existence of a grand designer.

Naturally, humans always believe things have a cause. Fakhrudeen al-Razi said it is the reason why if you hide and throw a stone at a baby, the baby will turn and begin to search for where it came from (the cause). Similarly, if you are driving on a highway and you saw a smoke from the bush, you will naturally believe there’s fire there. You can be able to know the existence of the invisible cause by observing the visible effect.

The first way among Aquinas’ 5 ways to proving God’s existence states that: There must be a first mover or unmoved mover or an ultimate source of change in things.

The above example can be solidified using physics law of inertia, also known as Newton’s first law of motion. Which states that an object will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external force.

In discussing about God’s wonders and existence, there’s a lot to say. It is indeed a great joy being among those that believe.
