The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bala Mohammed as the winner of the governorship poll held on March 18 in Bauchi state.
Mohammed was declared the winner of the election after he defeated Sadique Baba Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mohammed polled 525,280 votes to defeat APC’s Abubakar who scored 432,272 votes.
APC and its candidate approached the election tribunal in the state, citing cases of malpractice and non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 against Mohammed and the PDP. But the tribunal delivered its judgment in favour of Governor Mohammed.
Subsequently, they moved to the appellate court to challenge the judgment.
Delivering the lead judgment yesterday, Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa, ruled that the APC and its candidate, Abubakar, failed to evidently prove their points.
