AUN Partners Adamawa Gov’t on School Girls’ Enhancement Initiative

The American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola in collaboration with the Adamawa State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has launched an initiative to enhance the potential of school girls in different fields of study.

Speaking at the launch of the programme at Sanda Model Girls’ Primary and Secondary School in Yola on Monday, Dr. DeWayne Frazier, the AUN President said, the university is focused on encouraging young female girls to discover the potential in them which will equally make a positive impact in their various community.

Daily Trust reports that the Girls Education Enhancement Programme (GEEP) is targeted towards helping girls to perform excellently in schools in terms of performance in their various subjects which include mathematics, English and ICT as well as learning basic skills for self-reliance,

He added that the empowering of young women helps to build them economically which will make them depend on their selves adding that, their growth will help the nation positively

“Firstly, educating girls empowers them to become economically independent individuals. By acquiring knowledge and skills, they can contribute to the growth and development of their communities and the nation at large,” he said

However, Dr Umar Garba Pella, the state’s Commissioner for Education, in his speech encouraged school girls to take education important and as their number one aim adding that being educated can empower them to become self-reliant and active participants in nation-building.
