Auto Crash Claims 7 on Kano Road

Seven persons have been confirmed dead following a ghastly accident involving a ‘Model F’ Bus and a motorcycle on the Kano-Bauchi highway in Takai local government area of Kano State.

The Friday evening accident claimed at least six others had been rushed to a National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Hospital in the area.

In a statement made available to WikkiTimes on Saturday, spokesman for Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi Yusuf, disclosed that the Bus conveying 10 passengers from Kano to Birnin Kudu in Jigawa veered off the road and engulfed in flames while trying to avoid a collision with an upcoming motorcycle.

Yusuf noted that all three persons on the motorcycle and four passengers from the bus had been certified dead by medical authorities at the NYSC Hospital in Takai.

“A motorcycle Boxer carrying 3 people identified as Abba Yahaya of about 40 years old, Sani Yahaya of about 35 years old and Babangida Adamu of about 35 years old who were trying to overtake one Model F bus carrying ten (10) people from Kofar Wanbai Kano to Birnin Kudu Jigawa state.

“The bus driver while trying to dodge and avoid the incident which he failed to do so and the bus fell down on the road and was engulfed by fire.

“Four (4) people with unidentified names in the bus were rescued unconscious, later were confirmed dead.

“The three (3) men on motorcycle were also conveyed to Takai NYSC Hospital for medical attention. Later, doctors confirmed their death,” he said.

According to Yusuf, over-speeding and wrong attempts at overtaking were the causes for the fatal accident.

He appealed to motorists and motorcyclists to always abide by the road safety measures promoted by relevant authorities.
