Bala Mohamed to probe ex-Governor, sets up assets recovery committee

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state has on Friday inaugurated a committee to probe his predecessor MA Abubakar and recover government properties and funds in the state.

The Governor said setting up the committee became necessary as the state received over 2 trillion naira from May 2007 to May 2019 from the federation account, but could not account for any meaningful development.

Governor Bala Mohammed noted that total revenue collected by the immediate past administration in the state stood at over N400 billion while the unpaid gratuities is 27 billion naira.

He regretted that the current debt for the state is 150 billion naira, saying the probe was necessary to ensure integrity and accountability of his administration.

The Governor who said the committee was constituted to recover looted government properties and funds, charged members of the committee to justify the confidence reposed on them by being just and sincere in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Isa Hamma Misau who spoke on behalf of members, pledged to discharge their assignment in accordance with the terms of reference.

Senator Hamma Misau appealed to people of the state to support the committee in order to ensure success.
