Bauchi Deputy Speaker Vows To End Cholera, Drums For Legislation

Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, Deputy Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly, has expressed commitment to see the back of Cholera in Bauchi State.

Hon. Danlami posited that ending Cholera entirely in Bauchi State would be a great feat promising to mobilise members of the House to make proactive legislations on the diseases and water sanitation and hygiene.

Kawule stated this on Tuesday when he signed WaterAid Nigeria and Women Development Association’s Commitment Card as Cholera Champion in Bauchi State.

“My signing on this Commitment to Card indicates my interest, desire and dedication to give the needed moral, legislative and financial support to eradicate Cholera and associated water incurred ailments.”

The Deputy Speaker explained that Cholera has become regular yearly endemic in the state due to consumption of contaminated water and poor sanitation and hygiene.

“I will support water sanitation and hygiene services to help see the tail of Cholera and other water borne diseases in Bauchi State,” the Deputy Speaker said.

He vowed to prevail on his fellow lawmakers of the 9th Bauchi Assembly to on plenary sessions make laws and pass resolutions that will improve water sanitation and hygiene with special attention areas connected to Cholera in the state.

He further advises WaterAid to be more up and doing their resolve to defeat Cholera entirely.

He commended WaterAid for finding him worthy of being selected among the plethora of public servants in the state saying that “my doors are always open to serve the people of Bauchi State.”

Mr. Magaji Barde, spokesperson, WaterAid, and its development partner, Women Development Association for Self Sustenance, WODASS, implored the Deputy Speaker to mobilise Bauchi State communities and other relevant stakeholders to understand the importance of water sanitation and hygiene in public places for better health and socio-economic well being of the people.

Mr. Magaji Barde decried the indiscriminate refuse disposal attitude of some citizens of the state saying such condemnable acts lead to contamination of available public sources of water and flooding in extreme cases which brought about Cholera.
