‘Bauchi Emirate was forced to confer traditional title on first lady’—Aminu Tukur

A former law maker at the Bauchi State House of Assembly and an ally to Yakubu Dogara, Aminu Muhammad Tukur said Bauchi Emirate council was forced to confer a traditional title on Bauchi First Lady, Aisha Bala Mohammed.

Aminu Tukur who was answering questions from newsmen on allegations raised by a former speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara that traditional institutions were maltreated by the Bala led administration argued that the Bauchi emirate which was jittery of the administration’s hammer decided to confer the title on the first lady in order to pacify the administration.

“Where Dogara comments on maltreatment of traditional rulers, it doesn’t mean that they are put to jail or they are been giving queries like the suspension of emir of Misau, no. But the respect that is usually accorded to them as the custodians of our culture, norms and values is lacking.

“Whoever that is in Bauchi State will come to appreciate the fact that this is definitely very lacking.

“By the tradition of all the Emirates under Sokoto caliphate, they don’t award traditional title to a woman, they don’t. “This time around, the wife of the governor is being imposed upon the emirate council to be given the title of Sarauniya Bauchi. “It is against the tradition of all the Emirates under the caliphate to give traditional title to women”, Tukur said.

He said the Bauchi emirate was trying to get cover to protect itself from the “aggression of the present administration”, adding that “there is fear from the Emirate.”

“Let me emphasize my remarks; when emir of Misau was suspended on social media, many reasons were given to justify the position of the government in suspending the emir. “Should he be found wanting, I am with the government. “In any given kind of circumstance I don’t query why someone is being asked to account for something that is needed to be accounted for. “Invariably, the suspension of the emir of Misau could be associated with the current observation that is being raised by the former Speaker to the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Dogara Yakubu”, Tukur said.

When WikkiTimes contacted the Bauchi Emirate council over the allegations raised by Aminu Tukur, its information officer, Babangida Hassan Jahun said the emirate will not join issues with politicians on issues that are within the prerogative of the Emirate.

Meanwhile, Murjanatu Musa Maidawa, the Chief Press Secretary to the first lady of Bauchi State says the emirate willingly conferred the title on the first lady.

She however denies any external pressure from the government house on the Bauchi Emirate.

  1. I just wonder why many times when these Politicians want to make headlines, they say even the unthinkable.
Anyways, base on What happened in Kano state concerning Gov. Ganduje and Sanusi Lamido S, I think the govt is now above traditional rulers.
But I wonder why Hon. Aminu Tukur didn’t say a word about it, since it’s all part of the Sokoto caliphate.
