Bauchi Gov Signs Traffic Management Bill Into Law

Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed has assented into law, an executive bill seeking to establish Bauchi Traffic Management Agency, BAROTA.

Assenting to the bill on Wednesday, at the council chamber government house, governor Bala said the act was meant for the regulation, control and management of traffic in the state.

He said the bill for the Regulation, Control and Management of Traffic in the state will help in providing employment opportunities to teeming youth.

The governor who described the act as a tool of sanitizing towns and villages said it will also deepen responsibility and responsiveness within the State.

Governor Mohammed who commended the State House of Assembly for speedy passage of bills “in the interest of the state and the nation in general”, said his administration has so far assented to 16 bills into laws.

“It is indeed a pleasure today to assent to the 16th bill enacted by the Bauchi State House of Assembly. I don’t think there is any Assembly that has done this fit and of course despite all the differences mentioned by the Honorable Speaker, we are connected by the people of Bauchi state and Nigeria.”

“Some of the encroachment that we are seeing, the conflict between the Ministry of environment and Ministry of lands and Ministry of Local Government would be put aside because definitely the issue of development control and other related matters will be remedied by the law and the agency to be established.”

The Governor said with passage of the agency, his administration will proceed into establishing the traffic agency.

He assured that his administration will ensure just and respected people are appointed to man the agency in order to achieve the desired objectives for which it was established.

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Honorable Abubakar Y Suleiman who presented the bill for assent said the bill will provide employment opportunities for many unemployed youths in the state.

He said it will also infuse the spirit of discipline on traffic rules by road users in the state, in addition to revenue generation.
