Bauchi governor attributes high rate of out of school children to influx of IDPs

Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed says the increase in the number of out of school children and poverty in Bauchi state was linked to the influx of IDPs displaced by Boko Haram.

Bala Mohammed says the state has in recent years accommodated large number of internally displaced persons, whom he says have already been integrated into the society.

Governor Bala says his administration will join hands with critical stakeholders to rescue and rebuild the northeast region of Nigeria marred by incessant crisis and poverty.

Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed gave the assurance on Friday when he received in audience, Management of the North East Development Commission who paid him a courtesy visit at the council chamber, Government House Bauchi.

The Governor called on the commission to consider Bauchi State in the allocation of resources since the state was ‘magnanimous enough to accommodate the IDPs.’

The Chairman of the North East Development Commission, Major General Paul Tarfa, explained that the commission has been mandated to manage funds allocated to states affected by Boko Haram insurgency, to help in the resettlement, rehabilitation, integration and construction of roads and houses for the victims of the insurgency.

The Chairman who described Bauchi state as a critical stakeholder in the north east, said the Commission will work with the state government since it was housing some IDPs.
