Bauchi Gov’s wife drums support for domesticating child’s right act

The wife of the Bauchi State governor, Dr Aisha Mohammed, has called for the support of members of the House of Assembly (BAHA) and stakeholders on the domestication of child’s right act in the state.

The governor’s wife made this call while briefing newsmen to commemorate the International Children’s Day celebration in Bauchi on Thursday.

She said that every child has a right to basic education, healthcare and decent accommodation among others.

The governor’s wife noted that the child’s right act if domesticated, would take care of the high number of out of school children in the state.

According to her, parents must also strive hard to end all forms of social vices.

“As the future leaders, parents must ensure proper upbringing for better tomorrow.

“Under the office of the first lady, we have met with stakeholders and the intention is for our religious and community leaders to have a comprehensive knowledge of the content of the child right act document and advice.

“We will partner with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the media to embark on rigorous sensitisation on child rape and all forms of violence.

“As a mother, the child’s voice must be heard and welfare improved,” she said.

She advised youths to shun drug abuse and uphold the integrity and honour of their fatherland.

Speaking on early marriage, the governor’s wife suggested that parents should adopt the method of counselling couples before contracting marriages.

“Once we set the marriage institution right, it will take care of almost all problems in the society.

“Ignorance on marriage is the lead cause of domestic violence,” she said.

She congratulated the Nigerian children and prayed for their success as well as wished them luck in their endevours. (NAN)
