Bauchi Varsity Defies ASUU Strike, Orders Immediate Resumption

The management of Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG) has ordered for immediate reopening of the institution to cover academic gaps created by the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

This is contained in a memo signed by the Registrar of the institution, Aminu Yakubu Gambo, on Tuesday.

He said the governing council of the university had on Tuesday met and reviewed the negative impact on the varsity as a result of the industrial action embarked upon by ASUU. It however, directed that the academic activities be resumed immediately.

The statement read: “Sequel to the emergency meeting held by the governing council of the University on Tuesday 6 August 2022, it reviewed the industrial action embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, as it affects the University, it directed that the University to reopen academic activities immediately.

“Therefore all Deans, Heads of Department/Units are directed to bring this notice to the attention of all academic staff as appropriate.”

The ASUU’s 7-month-old industrial action has brought tremendously setback to academic activities in universities, where the union is now facing rebellious moves by some varsity managements, especially the states-owned ones.
