Catholic Priest Abducted in Benue

A Priest with the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Fr. Anthony Adikwu has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Benue State.

A source told this paper that the gunmen invaded Awume community in the Ohimini local government area of the state and invaded the priest’s residence.

“Yesterday (Thursday) night at 10 p.m., some gunmen stormed Ajegbe Awume, Ohimini Benue State, the kidnappers went straight to the church premises and kidnapped the Rev. Father in Charge of St. Margaret Parish,” the source said.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene confirmed the incident, saying that the command is working on it.

Anene said, “The information got to us this morning (Friday), and we are working on it.”

Earlier in the week it was confirmed that a policeman and two civilians were abducted in Gwer West local governments area of the state along Makurdi Naka road

However, Gwer council chairman, Andrew Ayande, stated that the victims escaped from the kidnapper’s den after the demand for N1.7 million was not met
