Covid-19: Bauchi Gov inaugurates LGs committees to confront pandemic at grassroots

In his effort to bolster community ownership of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic Bala Mohammed, Bauchi State Governor has set  up a functional committees across the 20 local government areas to help work out modalities to contain the spread of the novel virus.

A statement by the governor’s Senior Special Assistance on media, Mukhtari Gidado said the committees were inaugurated following a meeting between the governor and the 20 LGs Chairmen which took place at the council chamber, government house Bauchi.

The statement quoted the governor as saying that the committees will sensitize citizens at the grassroots on COVID-19 pandemic, and “will ensure compliance with the order for the closure of borders across the state.

“We discussed issues concerning COVID-19 pandemic and the need to establish Local Government Committees that will ensure sensitisation, surveillance and compliance with boundaries’ closure so that we will be protected from coronovirus disease”, the statement quoted the Governor Bala as saying.

Disturbed about the rise of coronavirus positive patients in the state, the Governor directed the Chairmen to ban businesses and social gatherings with visitors from other states.

The governor also ordered all the LG Chairmen to ensure that 3 million face masks were manufactured before making its use compulsory in the state.

He instructed the Caretaker Committee Chairmen to manufacture and distribute the face masks at grassroots so as to prevent the spread of the disease.
