COVID-19: Bauchi Govt. commences fumigation exercise ahead of schools’ reopening

Bauchi state ministry of education says it has commenced a fumigation exercise in 148 schools as part of efforts to comply with the federal government directives for the reopening of schools for SS3 and JSS3 students who are billed to write their final year examinations.

Dr. Aliyu Tilde, the state commissioner for education while speaking at the flagging off ceremony of the exercise at Government Girls College Bauchi, said the exercise was to make schools’ environment clean and safe for the conduct of the examination exercise.

He said, About 148 schools will be fumigated in order to protect schoolS’ environment and reduce the spread of covid-19 in line with the NCDC guidelines.

“Bauchi State government has supported the ministry with all necessary logistics and requirements for the exercise which includes funding, infrared thermometers, available facemask among others. “And I want to assure the people of the state that all the necessary measures to comply with the federal government directives to protect our students for the pandemic is put in place”, Dr. Aliyu Tilde said.

Tilde said, no student will be allowed entry into school premises without hand washing at the school gate as well as their various classes; adding that all the facilities will be distributed across various centers in the state.

He said, the exercise was to be completed within two days, saying the ministry had partnered relevant agencies such as the Bauchi state Environmental Protection Agency in order to deliver the exercise.

He called on the prospective final year students to maintain physical distancing, hand washing, wearing of facemask as stipulated in the NCDC guidelines. In a remark, the Director General of Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, assured their total dedication to achieving the desired goal.
