COVID-19: Bauchi NUJ postpones election to complement govt. measures

The electoral committee for the Bauchi state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the indefinite suspension of its election earlier slated for Wednesday 22nd of Aprill, 2020.

A press release jointly signed by the chairman and secretary of the committee, Umar Shira and Obed Hassan indicated that the decision was taken to supporting the current efforts of containing Covid-19 pandemic that has become a serious issue of concern globally.

“The electoral committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi 2020 wishes to convey decision of the National Secretariat of the union to put on hold the April 22nd scheduled election till further notice”. The release reads.

It further urged all members to await further directives regarding the conduct of the election, assuring that the process would be concluded once the situation in the country improves.

The committee assured all contestants that the pre-voting processes completed will be treated as it is, so that only election will hold in a new date to be decided by the national secretariat.

They asked members of the union to continue to support the government and health personnel in dealing with the situation by being more supportive in the area of awareness creation and public education on the pandemic.
