COVID-19: Dogara distributes 6,400 bags of food items as palliatives to constituents

A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has distributed over 6,400 bags of food items worth millions of naira to the vulnerable and less privileged persons in his constituency.

Hon. Aminu Tukur, the Chairman of the distribution committee, told newsmen on Saturday in Bauchi, that the items were meant to ameliorate the hardship associated with the coronavirus pandemic and Ramadan fast.

Tukur who listed the items to include, 3,200 bags of 10kg rice, 3200 bags of 10kg maize flour, 600 cartons of spaghetti and 100 bags of sugar noted that Muslims will get 60 percent of the commodities while 40 percent is going to the Christian community of Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro LGAs that made up the law maker’s constituency.

Tukur said Dogara enjoined the 21 member committee to be fair in the distribution of the palliatives by targeting the most vulnerable segments of the society.

He said that the former speaker instructed that the Muslim community in the 3 LGAs be given 60 percent of the food stuffs while the Christian community is to get 40 percent.

Tukur who said that the former Speaker was passionate about the well-being of his people; noting that the distribution has been “a routine gesture from Yakubu Dogara.

He called on the representatives of the three local governments who received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries to ensure equitable distribution.

Responding on behalf of the three local governments, Dr Yakubu Yahaya, Ga’Allah Daniel and Ya’u Yusuf of Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa and Dass respectively, thanked the speaker for the items, adding that the beneficiaries will not forget the good gesture in their lives.

They prayed God to grant all the wishes of the former speaker, promising to ensure that the items reach to desired destination, adding that the beneficiaries will not forget the good gesture in their lives.
