COVID-19: Health worker seeks relocation of Okitipupa market

Dr Akintunde Ogunfeyimi, the Chief Medical Director of Ondo State Specialists Hospital, Okitipupa, has urged the state government to relocate the Okitipupa main market in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state government had sealed off the market two months ago following the pandemic.

A visit by NAN to the market on Saturday revealed that trading activities were still ongoing in the unhygienic environment outside the market.

Akintunde told NAN that the manner in which traders operate in the tiny areas surrounding the market was unhealthy and against all the precautionary measures put in place  to curtail the spread  of COVID-19.

He added that the government should take urgent steps to arrest the situation at the market in order not to precipitate an increase in the spread of the virus.

“I am indeed surprised by the way these market women operate in the little space outside the market and without caution and obedience to all precautionary measures put in place by government.

“I am appealing to the state government to take urgent steps to relocate this market to a spacious and hygienic environment for us not to record an increase in cases of COVID-19 in this council,” Akintunde said.
