COVID-19: Plateau state extends lockdown

The 7 days total lockdown declared by Plateau state governor, Simon Bako Lalong has been extended to 12 midnight of Thursday 23rd April 2020 to meet the medically stipulated quarantine period of 14 days.

In a state broadcast aired in PRTV earlier today, the governor lift the lockdown to create a window for people to restock their houses with foodstuff and other essential commodities, “beginning from 11pm tonight, Wednesday 15th April 2020, to 12th midnight of Sunday 19th April 2020, the total lockdown will be relaxed to enable people go out to restock their homes.”

“By implication, the earlier restriction prior to the total lockdown remain. For the avoidance of doubt, all other markets remain closed except those selling food items, pharmaceuticals and cooking gas.” He said.

The governor reemphasized his earlier stance on adhering to social distance policy and maximum of 50 persons in religious congregations, saying, “Places of worship are to strictly adhere to the 50 persons provision, while maintaining social distancing and hygiene regulations.

The ban on all anniversaries and cultural festivals remains in force.” He said.

He further states that, movement in and outside the state remains prohibited “All entry and exit borders into the State will remain closed with greater reinforcement and CCTV surveillance to ensure total compliance.”

Recall that the governor had on Thursday, 9th April directed the total lockdown of the state effective from 12 midnight to Wednesday, 15th April, 2020 to decontaminate the state against the spread of COVID 19 pandemic.

Lalong commended the efforts of all stakeholders in the fight against the disease and that so far, 99 person have been investigated by the medical experts while 23 are still in isolation, yet, the state records zero positive case for the virus
