COVID-19: Plateau vigilante help enforce lockdown directives

Authorities in Plateau State say the unconventional security apparatus, known as vigilante have been playing a vital role in enforcing the full compliance of lockdown directives issued by the state government last week.

In an exclusive interview with WikkiTimes, Sani Kachalla the Jos North LGA commandant of VGN, said “the level of people’s compliance in abiding by the lockdown directives is commendable, so far, within my jurisdiction, there is no any record of violation.

“Abiding by the directives is necessary looking at how ravaging the pandemic is, it kills scores of people globally and still counting.

“Despite that no case has so far been recorded in Plateau, the measures taken by the government is on track, because the virus has no cure and even if it has, prevention is better than cure”, he said.

“We’re asked to fully participate in the exercise looking at the fact that the conventional security forces lack the manpower to be all around and ensure the compliance, the VGN know all nooks and crannies of the city center”

Responding to WikkiTimes on the efforts of VGN, a police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity for he’s not authorized to speak on behalf of the force, “the efforts put in place by the unconventional security is highly commendable, if not for their efforts, we’ll find it difficult in seeing the success of the lockdown directives.”

Recall that, VGN and Neighborhood Watch was formed during the incessant unrest in Jos and environs which necessitated youth to organise themselves in defense of their environment against perceived enemies.
