The police in Sokoto State have imposed a 12-hour curfew in Sabon Birni town following violent protests that greeted killing of District Head of Gatawa, Isa Muhammed Bawa.
WikkiTimes reports that bandits had killed the monarch after subjecting him to torture and dehumanising condition while negotiation for ransom was ongoing.
A 60-million-naira ransom had been agreed on and five motorcycles, but the terrorists murdered the traditional ruler before the delivery.
Ahmed Rufa’i, the spokesman of the police in the state, said the curfew is from 6am to 6pm and is with immediate effect.
WikkiTimes learned that barely few hours after observing the funeral prayers (in absentia) of the late Sarkin Gobir, youths in the area went on rampage to demonstrate their anger over brutal killing of the monarch by his abductors.
A video footage shared by Eons Intelligence, an intelligence and security awareness platform showed the protesting youths in large numbers, marching towards the residence of the state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir, setting tyres and other valuables on fire along the way.
The security personnel, however, took control of the situation and restore normalcy which was immediately followed by the curfew.
