Easter: NGO urges Nigerians to remember poor, vulnerable children

An NGO, Society for Community Development (SCD), has urged well meaning Nigerians to remember the poor, especially women and vulnerable children at Easter.

Mr Apoede Atsegbua, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

Atsegbua said that it was necessary to feed the poor or empower them to feed themselves to ensure their improved sustenance.

“Don’t forget the poor, especially women and children in this Easter and always.

“Feed the poor or empower them to feed themselves which is more sustainable.

“Some people buy expensive drinks, wines worth over N100, 000 to celebrate with their peers and rich friends, but do you know that N100, 000 is enough to lift 10 women and pull some communities out of poverty.

“With N10, 000, a woman can start a business or expand existing one.

“Increasing economic opportunity is not only good for these women, but also provides them with resources to focus on and improve the health and educational status of their children,” he said.

He said that SCD had supported over 200 local women to engage in market drive economic activities.

“As we encourage government to create the enabling environment, individuals and the private sector should remember these vulnerable women and children in their communities, this Easter and always.”
