Fahimta women partners ICPC, engage youths on graft war

Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiatives and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission have challenged youths in Nigeria to take off the fight against corruption with utmost seriousness in order to save the lives of their children yet unborn.

The challenge was made during an engagement meeting with youth leaders on anti corruption, behavioural approach and social norms organized by Fahimta Women and youth Development Initiatives with support from African Network for Economic and Environmental Justice.

Emmanuel Laban representative of the ICPC who presented a paper on the role of youth in the fight against corruption said, the menace has eaten deep into all fabrics of our lives hence, the need for collective efforts to tackle the issue head on.

“Gone were the days, when people especially youths would rely on anti corruption agencies to take off the fight alone, forgetting their role as stakeholders.”

Emmanuel says since corruption does not recognized age, gender, or religion in making someone a victim, youths being leaders of tomorrow should compliment government’s efforts in fighting corruption.

He commended Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative for organizing the event which he says will help inculcate discipline, value reorientation as well as awareness creation as some of the steps in the fight against graft.

Commenting on the programme, the Executive Director and founder of Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative, Hajiya Maryam Garba, said the essence of organising the gathering was to engage the youth in order to hear their perceptions on corruption and chart a way forward.
