FCT Council Polls: Party agents commend security agents in Kuje

Party agents commend security agents in Kuje Party Agents have commended security agencies for ensuring orderly and peaceful conduct of the council elections in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Some of the agents made the commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday at different polling stations in the area.

According to the agents, the security apparatus for the polls, which comprises of officers of the Nigerian Police, NSCDC, FRSC, among others, have effectively ensured the safety of voters and election officials.

Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, a PDP agent at Science Primary School polling centre, expressed delight that there was no problem between the parties and their agents as well as security men and the electorate.

“Voters who came out early met the security agents already on ground and that gave everyone a sense of  safety.

“There is no issue of ballot snatching, or even common arguments among voters, which proved that the security officials are managing the situation very well,” he said.

Mr Ismail Hussaini, the All Progressives Congress (APC) party agent at the centre, said that he was satisfied with the cooperation of the voters with security officials.

“So far, so good; the orderliness is okay, because voting started early and I pray it will end well without any crisis,” he said.

Mr Goodluck Solomon, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) agent at First UBE Primary School polling centre, noted that council polls in the FCT was always intense because the people see it as their ”own elections”.

“People used to be afraid to come out; however the presence of adequate security agents has really made today’s election peaceful.

He, however, expressed concern over the low turnout of voters in contrast to the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly polls.

“We cannot really explain, but it is very clear that voters did not come out like they did during the presidential elections,” he said.

Also, a voter, Mrs Cecilia Adamu, noted that the process was peaceful and added that the atmosphere showed that indigenes of Kuje Area Council were anxiously waiting for today to vote in new leaders.

“We are grateful to God that a day like this has come, and we hope that it will be peaceful throughout,” she said.
