FG Pledges to Support Training of Teaching Hospital Personnel

Vice-President Kashim Shettima said the Federal Government would support the Training of personnel in Teaching Hospitals for Enhanced Healthcare Delivery.

Shettima made the pledge during a meeting with the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital Management led by its Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, on Wednesday at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The Vice president who stressed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, also praised the institution’s progress under the leadership of Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, expressing the government’s dedication to advancing human capacity development in healthcare facilities nationwide.

“Training is paramount,” he said, pledging to explore various avenues to support not only the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital but also other tertiary health institutions across the country.

He emphasised the potential for collaboration with the private sector to support the training initiatives.

Commending the CMD and his team for their exemplary leadership, Shettima pointed out significant achievements at the hospital, including its expansion to a 1305-bed capacity with modern amenities.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Vice President lauded the proactive approach of the CMD, particularly in securing external funding for facility upgrades.

In response, Prof. Ahidjo expressed gratitude for the government’s support and outlined the hospital’s achievements and future plans.

With state-of-the-art equipment and specialized centres for various medical services, Ahidjo emphasized the hospital’s readiness to become an international centre of excellence in healthcare.
