Fire Destroys 22 Shops in Kano Market

A fire destroyed no fewer than 22 shops in a Kano market worth millions of naira on Monday leaving traders stranded at Gwarzo Market in Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state.

The Zonal Information Officer of Gwarzo Local Government, Rabiu Khalil, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that the fire incident started on Sunday.

The statement read, “The fire started at midnight of last Sunday and it took the State Fire Service personnel up to Monday morning before they could finally put it out.”

According to Khalil, dozens of shops were completely destroyed by the inferno, while property worth millions of naira were destroyed.

He stated that there was no injury or loss of life in the incident, however.

He called on the government and other well-to-do individuals to come to their assistance to alleviate their sufferings.

A member representing Gwarzo Federal Constituency, Abdulahi Babangandu, paid a sympathy visit to the affected traders where he donated N500,000 to the victims.
