The Kano State Fire Service has successfully rescued a 65-year-old woman, Khadija Muhammad, who fell into a well at Gafiyawa town, near the Mamuda Group of Company in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
According to reports, the Emergency Response Unit of the fire service received a distress call on Wednesday, November 26, from one Ibrahim Sani Hausawa, who alerted them to the incident. Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they found the woman trapped in the well.
Relatives of the victim disclosed that she has a mental health condition, adding to the complexity of the rescue operation. However, after swift and coordinated efforts of the rescue team, the woman was safely retrieved from the well and handed over to her brother, Malam Ibrahim Dahiru.
The Kano State Fire Service has commended the public for their cooperation and urged residents and property owners to take necessary precautions to prevent similar incidents. The agency’s Director emphasized the importance of securing wells and boreholes by raising the surrounding walls and installing metal covers to prevent accidents involving people and animals.
The fire service reaffirmed its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and ensuring public safety.
