FRSC partners NAN on intensive public enlightenment on safe driving culture

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says  it is seeking synergy with the News Agency of Nigeria through public enlightenment to ensure motorists and other road users imbibe safety culture .

Mr Abayomi Omiyale, the Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states made the call when he visited NAN North-West Zonal Office in Kaduna.

Omiyale described public enlightenment as critical to the attainment of FRSC goals of reducing accidents by 20 per cent and fatality by 25 per cent.

According to him, not much will be achieved without the full support of the media in reaching out to the public with key messages on how to drive safely on the road.

“All media are important and critical to our cause, but NAN is strategic, because of its wider reach and coverage.

“We strongly believed that with NAN and other media outfits on our side, our messages in ensuring accident-free roads will reach all categories of road users.

“NAN has been our strong partner in the fight against reckless driving, over speed, overloading and all forms of traffic violations.

“My mission today is to strengthen that partnership so that together we can change the attitude of road users through massive enlightenment of members of the public.”

The zonal commanding officer said that command would soon carryout strategic intra-zonal intervention patrol to avert avoidable accidents along major highways with high vehicular movement in the zone.

“The patrol will be carried out along Kaduna to Birnin Yero, Zaria, Funtua, Tashan Yari and Chiromawa highway and Kaduna to Zonkwa, Kafanchan, and Gwantu highway.

“The patrol is specifically designed to enlighten motorists and other roads users on road safety regulations for safe driving to avert accident and save lives,” he said.

Responding, the Zonal Manager, NAN Kaduna, Maharazu Ahmed, thanked the ZCO and his team for the visit and pledged NAN support to the attainment of FRSC mandates.

“With our wider coverage and large number of subscribers within and outside the country, NAN is a platform you need to reach your target audience with relevant information.

“NAN will remain your partner in this campaign because it is part of our responsibility to enlighten the public on any issue that interest them of which road safety is among,” Ahmed said
