FRSC warns against violation of road safety rules during elections

The Jigawa Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned road users not to violate road safety rules during the election period in the interest of public safety.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Angus Ibezim, gave the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting in Dutse on Tuesday.

The meeting which held at the instance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), also had party leaders, security agencies and civil society organisations in attendance.

Ibezin said that it was crucial for all categories of road users to be safety-compliant all through the election period.

The sector commander warned members of the public against damaging of road signs or defacing them with election posters.

“You should also avoid speed, overloading of party supporters in vehicles, hanging of passengers on moving vehicles and loading of party faithful inside car booths.

“Our officers will be on ground to check all manners of violation of safety rules along the roads during the elections, ” he said in a statement.

Ibezin called on politicians to caution their supporters against unwholesome anti-safety acts to avoid casualties.

“The target of political campaigns and elections is to enable the electorate to vote candidates of their choice in order to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“It is therefore right for us to obey road safety rules and stay alive to enjoy the services that we expect political leaderships to implement, ’’ he said
