How empowerment could salvage women from the dungeon of abuse

Empowerment creates power in individuals over their own lives, society, and in their communities. People are empowered when they have liberty to opportunities available to them without limitations and restrictions such as in education, profession and lifestyle.

Education is one of the most important means of empowering women with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to participate fully in developmental process of the community and the world at large.

A lot of graduates are married to men whose heart is completely filled with the notion that “my wife will not work” especially my Muslim brothers in northern Nigeria. It’s appalling how women are being subjugated to the extent of not being able to make choices for themselves. Women should be allowed to go to school and work so as to enable them gain capability and control over their own lives and obtain the ability to make strategic choices.

Investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards reducing domestic violence, Abuse and poverty because women’s empowerment is essential to global progress.

When we discuss women empowerment, it isn’t about working in a beautiful office alone, it’s also about skills and businesses to increase earning capacity, to uproot the roots of poverty. However, often times women are relegated to procreative accomplishments and farm work.

Government should look into full and equal participation of women in political civil, economic, social and cultural life and the eradication of all forms of discrimination, subjugation oppression on grounds of gender.

Scholarship should be given to children everywhere irrespective of their gender. This will help to reduce the number of illiterate women and also empower women.

Parents should stop subjecting the girl child to street hawking as it is a major cause of child abuse and neglect. Child labour, trafficking, child marriage, and other offenses should be stopped.

There should be empowerment programs to train, equip, counsel and educate women to help them realize their dream of building or expanding a successful business.

Empowering women starts right in our families, workplaces, streets and neighbourhoods. Empower women in your lives because educating and empowering women is Educating the whole world.

And as a parent(s) please teach your female child (ren) how to feed herself so that no one, mostly a man with African traditional mentality that believes that, a woman’s place is in the kitchen will starve her.

It begins with you and me as the parents; let the female child be given equal rights, opportunities and justice as the male child.

  1. Actually I am in support of this but the big problem we are having in various places of work is that,u will find a house wife teching her husband that is to say she seen her with some men out said.that is the main reason why some parents are not allowed the female child to school.and another problem is that during (prophet Muhammad S A W ) he did not mention any Hadith that is to allowed female to work or something like that, and we are following the rules and regulations guided by him but deu to the challenge of this world and u can not comfire that time and ours now.
