Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has announced that the state government will begin sales of assorted grains at 50% discount across the 25 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
Bago said the measure is to ease the current hardship being experienced in the state and the country at large.
He noted that designated centers have been provided at each local government areas to sell the foodstuff.
According to him, the state government had in stock a large quantity of assorted grains procured from dry season farming through partnership with some private organizations, “which will be sold to residents at a subsidized rate until harvest season,” he said.
In a video clip monitored by WikkiTimes, Governor Bago said over 1000 trucks of grains consisting of rice, maize, millet, sorghum and beans would be distributed to the LGAs to commence the sales.
The governor said” as a government we are very serious about it. You can see one of our warehouses, you have been to the others, and you have seen our inputs and what we have stored. We have invested so much in Agric production. This is what we got through the dry season; we are turning out over 1,000 trucks of food across the state”.
“This food will be sold at a 50% discount. So this is our initiative, we only have partnership with private companies for mechanization. Right now because of hunger in the land, we are supposed to aggregate this for them but we have told them that we have to move it forward so that we can feed our people first before we can export them”, said Bago.
