ICIR Launches Initiative to Promote Democratic Governance Through Media

The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) has issued a call for applications from proficient and eligible journalists, as part of its initiative titled “Promoting Democratic Governance in Nigeria Project”. This undertaking, supported by the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria through its “Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program”, aims to bolster the media’s role in enhancing transparency, accountability, and good governance, with a specific focus on the Northwest region.

The ICIR, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering good governance in Nigeria through rigorous investigative and data-based journalism, is poised to cultivate a culture of vigilant reporting across the nation’s media landscape. Over the past half-decade, the Centre has concentrated its efforts on empowering journalists to delve into investigative and data-driven reporting, thereby fostering accountability and facilitating efficient public service delivery at the sub-regional level.

ICIR Calls Journalists to Apply for OCR Project

This novel endeavor according to the centre in a statement seeks to select 20 journalists from the Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria, encompassing the states of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Zamfara. Journalists from diverse media platforms, including print, electronic, and digital, are invited to apply for this project, which encompasses capacity building and financial support. Applicants with a minimum of two years of journalistic experience, spanning print, electronic, and online media, within the Northwest geo-political zone are eligible to partake. Successful candidates will be tasked with in-depth reporting on accountability matters within their respective states. Freelance journalists with a proven record of astute reporting are also encouraged to participate. Prior critical reporting undertaken in the preceding year must be substantiated by intending candidates.

To ensure inclusivity, the ICIR is resolutely urging accomplished female journalists to seize this opportunity and contribute to the democratic governance discourse. The application window is scheduled to be open from Friday, August 4, until Friday, August 18, 2023. All applications should be submitted exclusively through the provided online link.
