Being the last hope of the common man where disputes are resolved, courts in Bauchi State have recorded about 5,263 civil and criminal cases as of the year ending 2023.
WikkiTimes learnt that the high court division recorded about 2,666 cases slightly higher than the 2,597 magistrate courts received in the year under review.
Of the number of cases recorded, high courts in the state disposed of only about 2,61 cases while the magistrate courts treated and disposed 1,710 cases.
By implication, Bauchi courts have a cumulative 3,292 pending cases.
The State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, who is appalled by the staggering number of pending cases littering courts, called on stakeholders to support the judiciary to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.
She advocated for the adoption of out-of-court settlement mechanisms among litigants to reduce the burden of cases on judges and courts already grappling with a dearth of manpower supply.
Justice Umar warned lawyers to avoid unnecessary delay and technicalities while handling cases for smooth and speedy dispensation of Justice.
