Bauchi State Government has commenced Public Hearing on theproposed 2020, which it says will help the state submit an inclusive andpragmatic budget to the State’s Assembly.
Speaking at the commencement of the public hearing on theproposed budget in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of the State, the State
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Amimu Hassan Gamawa, statedthat conducting such an event would promote transparency and accountabilitythroughout the entire budgetary process.Dr. Aminu Gamawa said the idea of public hearing, was toensure that government policy is driven by the public interest.
He described the process as client based approach toimplementation.
The Honourable Commissioner, who explained that the publichearings were designed to be conducted in the 3 Senatorial Districts of thestate, said participants at the occasion included representatives of variousgroups such as youths, women, CSOs, and traditional leaders among others.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry,Alhaji Yahuza Adamu, it was conveyed that the Honourable Commissioner insistedthat the Budget should not be a secret document.
The Commissioner said the resolve of the state government toconduct public hearings on the proposed 2020 budget is to increase and boostcitizens’ participation in governance.
