Inclusive Budget: Bauchi Govt commences Public Hearing on 2020 appropriation

Bauchi State Government has commenced Public Hearing on the proposed 2020, which it says will help the state submit an inclusive and pragmatic budget to the State’s Assembly.

Speaking at the commencement of the public hearing on the proposed budget in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of the State, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Amimu Hassan Gamawa, stated that conducting such an event would promote transparency and accountability throughout the entire budgetary process.

Dr. Aminu Gamawa said the idea of public hearing, was to ensure that government policy is driven by the public interest.

He described the process as client based approach to implementation.

The Honourable Commissioner, who explained that the public hearings were designed to be conducted in the 3 Senatorial Districts of the state, said participants at the occasion included representatives of various groups such as youths, women, CSOs, and traditional leaders among others.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu, it was conveyed that the Honourable Commissioner insisted that the Budget should not be a secret document.

The Commissioner said the resolve of the state government to conduct public hearings on the proposed 2020 budget is to increase and boost citizens’ participation in governance.
