President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said peace is gradually returning to communities in the North-East and North-West following sustained military operations against Boko Haram insurgents and armed bandits.
In his 65th Independence Anniversary broadcast on Tuesday, the president commended security forces for what he described as “gallant victories” that have led to the liberation of hundreds of northern communities and the safe return of thousands of displaced persons to their homes.
“Our officers and men are winning the war against terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes,” Tinubu said. “Peace has returned to hundreds of our liberated communities in the North-West and North-East, and thousands of our people have returned safely to their homes.”
The president also highlighted ongoing investments in northern infrastructure, citing the Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Katsina–Maradi rail projects, which he said are nearing completion. He further mentioned progress on the Sokoto–Badagry Highway, part of a broader plan to expand transport networks across the country.
On the economy, Tinubu linked improved oil output and trade surplus to enhanced security in the Niger Delta and northern regions. He also stressed that the federal government’s reforms are freeing up resources for states and local governments to address pressing development challenges, particularly in education, healthcare, and agriculture.
