INEC Fixes Dec. 5th For Dass Constituency Bye-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has slated the 5th of December for Dass Constituency bye-election.

The electoral umpire had scheduled the election to October 31st, 2020 but could not proceed with it’s plans due to the #EndSARS  protests that engulfed the country.

INEC Bauchi office in a press statement made available to WikkiTimes and signed by Adamu Gujungu, Head of Voter Education and publicity said the Dass Constituency bye election was postponed along with other bye elections across the country.

“The mode of the nation as a result of the #EndSARS protest, a new date has been fixed for the Dass Constituency bye election to hold on the 5th December, 2020,” the statement read in part.

WikkiTimes recalls that the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly had on 8th September, 2020 declared the seat of member representing Dass Constituency, late Hon Musa Mante Baraza vacant following his death.
The Speaker ordered the clerk of the House to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formally inform the commission that Dass Constituency seat in the Assembly was vacant to enable it start the process for conducting bye-election in the constituency.

Constitutionally, the electoral body is mandated to conduct bye-election within 90 days upon getting notice of a vacant position.
