INEC to conduct supplementary elections in 6 states, March 23

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it will conduct supplementary elections in polling units in all states where elections were declared inconclusive.

A statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee Mr Festus Okoye says that details of the constituencies including number of polling units and registered voters will be published on INEC’s website tomorrow (wed 13th March).

The statement further says that the elections were declared inconclusive mainly due to discontinuation of the use of the smart card readers Midway into the election or failure to deploy them, over voting as well as widespread disruption in many polling units.

The commission said after considering the report by the REC in Bauchi State in what led to the disruption at the Tafawa Balewa collation centre which led to the cancellation of results for the entire local government, it found out that there were issues that needed further investigation and has set up a team led by a national commissioner to resolve them.
