Journalists urge to maintain professionalism in their reportage

A week long Fact-Checking and investigate journalism training for journalists in the criminal justice and anti-corruption sector has emphasized the need for journalists to continue to remain committed to professional ethics while doing their businesses.

The training held at Tahir Guest Place Kano was organized by Premium Times Center for Investigative Journalism under its rule of law and anti-corruption project and funded by the European Union and British Council.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the closing ceremony, an assistant programme manager, Premium Times Center for Investigative Journalism, Miss Jessica Odudu noted that emphasis given to executive and legislative arms of government by the Media necessitated the Organization to train the participants in order to ensure justice in the judicial system.

She said the sponsors of the project, European Union and British Counci were committed to ensure people especially poor and vulnerable groups get access to justice in all its ramifications.

Jessica Odudu explained that already, similar training has been conducted in the states of Adamawa and Abuja while that of Lagos and Anambra would soon be conducted.

It would be recalled that the training was organized to equip participants on ways of ensuring effective fact checking especially in the three Arms of Government, particularly addressing corruption in the judiciary.

The participants unanimously pledged to make good use of the knowledge acquired by contributing towards finding lasting solution to the challenges affecting societal development.
