The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressive Congress(APC) has suspended the state’s Women Leader, Maryam Sulaiman (Mai Rusau) for defending former governor Nasiru El-Rufa’i over the ongoing crisis between the former governor and his successor.
In a letter dated March 31st, 2024, the leadership of the Badarawa/Malali ward, the polling unit where the Women Leader hailed from, said the decision to suspend her was for gross misconduct and for allegdely defaming the character of the state governor, Uba Sani.
The suspension letter signed by Ali Maishago and Zakkah Bassahuwa, Chairman and Secretary of the party slighted article 21.2(v) of the APC’s constitution as the basis of the suspension, noting that the suspended Women Leader has without any authorization, publicly discredited the personality of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State.
“The Badarawa/Malali Ward APC Executive Committee after due deliberations and careful examinations on the viral video clip released on 30th March, 2024 via social networks; Facebook, Whatsapp, and Tiktok which is against the constitution of our dear party APC as stated in article 21.2 (v)”.
“In view of the above, below are the gross misconducts where the subsequent suspension relied upon:
1. Deformation of character of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State tate Malam Uba Sani.
2. Unauthorized publicity of the party dispute that discredited the personality of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State.
“Furthermore, from today Sunday 31 of March, 2024, the leadership of APC Badarawa/Malali Ward unanimously resolved to suspend Hajiya Maryam
Suleiman (Mai Rusau) from the Party pending the further investigation on the matter from the constituted authority”, read the letter.
WikkiTimes had earlier reported that a new political crisis looming in Kaduna state, after Governor Uba Sani said his government will not be able to pay workers’ salaries because of the huge debt he inherited from the immediate former governor Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i.
Governor Uba Sani, on Saturday in Kaduna, said he inherited a debt of $587 million equivalent to N85 billion and the money of 115 contractor companies.
He said that N7 billion was taken to pay off debt out of the N10 billion allocation given by the federal government to the state in March, leaving the state N3 billion, whereas the state is paying a salary of 5.2 billion every month.
