Kaduna Commission Tasks Journalists on Exposing Fake Religious, Political Leaders

Bishop Idowu Fearon, the Kaduna State Peace Commission’s Chairman, has urged journalists to be more focused and dedicated in reporting peace-building stories as well as help expose fake political and religious leaders.

Fearon made this known during an interactive session with Journalists on Monday in Kaduna, adding that some religious leaders use religion for self-benefit.

He also charged the journalists to help expose recalcitrant religious leaders who were in the habit of creating division using religion to instigate crisis.

According to the cleric, Kaduna State and the North were confronted with many issues affecting peace and stability, such as banditry, ethnic and religious crises and the circulation of fake news.

He also assured that the commission would live up to expectations in achieving its mandate of preventing tension, promoting understanding and for all to live peacefully with their differences.

Fearon also called on the journalists to avoid reporting unverified reports which were capable of creating crisis. “If there is peace in Kaduna, the glory is yours and vice versa, tell the truth,” he urged.

Fearon also commended the journalists for making efforts to reduce tension anytime the need arose.
