Kano Gov Announces 50% Reduction in State-owned Tertiary Institutions

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced reduction of school fees in the state-owned higher institutions of learning.

With his announcement, the institutions comprising universities, polytechnics, colleges of agriculture, education and nursing and midwifery would be charging half of their current registration fees.

In a terse Facebook post, the Governor said: “Earlier today, I had an important meeting with the heads of all state-owned tertiary institutions in Kano State, where I directed that tuition fee at the institutions be slashed by 50% with immediate effect.”

Recall that WikkiTimes reported that the Kano state governor has approved 700 million naira to defray registration fees of 7,000 Kano students in Bayero university Kano.

Earlier, Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Yusuf Kofar Mata, expressed dissatisfaction with the astronomical increase of school fees by the largest university in the state.

However, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas defended the fee hike as necessary to cope with the increasing costs of running the institution.
