Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has said that the state government will settle the outstanding tuition fees and secure the release of certificates of the state’s medical and other sciences students held by Near East University, Lefkosia, Cyprus for many years.
The governor who met with the management of the university, decried that many students have been stuck due to non-payment of their tuition fees between 2015-2019.
In a tweet, the governor lamented the previous administration’s inability to settle the students’ outstanding fees, saying that during their meeting, the institution and the state government had reached an agreement.
According to him, the inability of the students to obtain their certificates after years of graduation has caused a serious setback to the students and the state which is in dire need of professionals like them.
“The graduates of Medicine, Nursing and other important courses have been stuck due to the non-payment of their tuition fees by the previous administration, and I am glad that we have had a fruitful discussion with the university in order to settle the liabilities”, he said.
The governor, however, said despite the setback, his administration will continue to accord priority to education and welfare of the people.
“This situation has become a setback for our children in their journey towards their dreams and aspirations, and for our state, which is in need of professionals like them”, he added.
