No fewer than 500 persons in Katagum federal constituency ofBauchi State have been empowered by the member representing the constituency in
the House of Representatives, Umar Abdulkadir Sarki.The constituents were offered sewing machines, and motorcycles.
The lawmaker, who is one of the only two federal lawmakerswho was elected under the platform of the People’s Redemption Party, PRP toldthe constituents that the gesture is in consonance with his campaign promisesof giving back the dividends of democracy for the benefit of the electorate.
“Indeed, the best wayto empower the youths, women and the less privileged in the society is givingthem clues on how to fend for themselves,” he said.
Sarki added that the sewing machines and other materialsmeant for women will help them earn a living while the motorcycles are toempower youths in order to give them sense of belonging.
Sarki urged the beneficiaries not to sell the materials andmake good use of them to earn a living and boost the economy of their immediatecommunities.
Lami Garba, a widow with four kids commended the lawmakerfor the gesture, adding that many families would now have means of living andwill not beg to feed their children, as the empowerment materials donated tothem will make life better and easier.
