Kebbi Deputy Speaker Regains Freedom One Week After Kidnapping – Official

The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Muhammad-Bagudu, has been released from captivity one week after he was abducted by armed men in Bagudo town.

His release was announced on Sunday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Yakubu Tafida, in Birnin Kebbi.

Mr Tafida said the lawmaker was rescued in a joint security operation after days of search efforts, describing the development as evidence of the government’s “unwavering commitment” to protecting residents.

“The government is relieved to confirm that Hon. Samaila is in good health and high spirits. He is also receiving all necessary support and care,” Mr Tafida stated.

He commended security personnel for what he called tireless work during the operation and reiterated that the state government would continue to strengthen collaboration with security agencies to curb banditry and related crimes.

“The Kebbi Government will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to create a safe and secure environment for all citizens and residents of the state,” he added.

Residents were urged to support ongoing security operations by reporting suspicious movements to authorities.

The deputy speaker was seized on Friday, 31 October, around 8:20 p.m., shortly after observing the Isha’i (early night) prayer and while returning home, when gunmen invaded Bagudo town.

Kebbi State, similar to parts of the North-west, has witnessed increased bandit activity in recent years, prompting intensified military and law-enforcement deployments across vulnerable communities.
