A mine pit collapse has killed a 17-year-old miner in Ningi local government area of Bauchi State.
An eyewitness who spoke to WikkiTimes but preferred his identity hidden said that Bello Abdullahi of Tabla village was working when the site collapsed and buried him beneath.
The incident occurred at Doguwar Gaba forest, five kilometers away from Tabla village, where miners had been excavating lead for over a month.
According to the eyewitness, the miner was digging when the surface of the land collapsed and efforts to rescue him by other miners failed to save his life as he was found dead at the scene after being dug out.

This is the latest in a series of landslides at mining sites in Ningi LGA, resulting in the loss of many lives. On August 6, 2023, four miners were killed in a similar incident in Yadagungume area.
Despite warnings from authorities, illegal mining activities continue to claim lives in the area.
Attempts to speak with Ningi LGA Caretaker Chairman, Ibrahim Zubairu and police spokesperson in Bauchi, Ahmed Wakili were unsuccessful.
The Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee of the local government, Hon Haruna Abdulhamid Auta, confirmed the incident and expressed frustration over the persistence of illegal mining despite the dangers.
