The Controversial New National Minimum Wage in Gombe State has been amicably resolved with the organized Labour in the state.
The agreement reached between the Gombe State Government and the organized Labour on the implementation of the N30,000 New National Minimum Wage and it’s consequential adjustment on 25th February, 2020 at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Governor was presided over by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau.
The Committee Chairman has agreed on the following terms and conditions that include; that the effective date of the implementation of the New National Minimum Wage shall be 18th April, 2019 notionally and financially with effect from 1st January, 2020 while the current special, professional allowances and tax regime shall be maintained.
Other terms and condition agreed upon are; that the agreement shall be reviewed between the period of six months to twelve months from the effective date of implementation while in the meantime, 65 percent on the increase of CONHESS and CONMESS would be implemented in the State Civil Service, the remaining 35 percent would be considered during the review as in above.
Also, finances of the Eleven Local Government areas of the state shall be closely monitored for the next six months to twelve months with a view to ensuring improvement for possible implementation as in above, that is; that the New National Minimum Wage payable in Gombe State Civil Service, Local Government Areas and Local Education Authorities shall be N30,000 as per agreement.
Furthermore, the State Salaries and Wage Review Committee shall remain a standing Committee to review all issues on remunerations and all Civil Servants in the state are enjoined to reciprocate this kind gesture of Gombe state Government by being more hard-working, honest, loyal and dedicated to their duties.
Our correspondent reports that the agreement was signed by the Committee Chairman, Dr.Manassah Daniel Jatau and made available to Journalists on Thursday in Gombe.
It would be recalled that Gombe State Governor, Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya had on 24th December, 2019 approved and constituted a 15-Man Negotiation Committee on N30,000 Minimum Wage and the Consequential adjustments headed by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau.
In that Committee, the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau was to serve as Chairman of the negotiation committee while the committee was mandated to look into the possibility of implementation of the N30,000 Minimum Wage as it affected the Core Civil Servants and others in the state. It is also to determine the consequential adjustments for Core Civil Servants on GL. 07-17 and others.
Also the Members of the Committee are Dr. Manassah Jatau as Committee Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo, Hon. Commissioner, Ministry for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs; Mohammed Gambo Magaji, Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Finance; Dr. Ishiaku Mohammed, Special Adviser,
Budget, Planning and Development Partners Coordination; Yusuf Daudu Kaltungo, Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reform and Barr. Zainab Abdulkadir Rasheed, Permanent Secretary/Solicitor General, Ministry of Justice.
Others are: Muhammad Buba G., State Auditor General; Aliyu Mahdi Mele, Auditor General for Local Government; Mohammed Seyoji Jibril, Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Service Matters Department and Umar Babagoro Bello, Permanent Secretary/Accountant General.
Also to serve on the committee are Mohammed Manu Malala, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission; Joint Public Service Negotiation Council (JNC); Representative of Federal Ministry of Labour And Productivity; Dr. James Madi, Director, Hospital Services while Barr. Caleb Ubale, Special Adviser, Legal Matters will serve as Secretary
The committee was given the mandate to co-opt any persons deemed suitable for the successful conduct of the committee’s assignment.
