Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reneged on his promise to implement the approved new minimum wage to Kaduna State civil servants in November.
Gov. Sani has failed to implement the N72,000 new salary as a minimum for the workers in the Centre of Learning.
Recall that in October the governor announced that his administration had slightly increased the new minimum wage by 2000 to 72,000 higher than the nationally agreed 70,000 naira.
A statement issued by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Ibraheem Musa, while announcing the increment said the approved new minimum wage of N72,000 for Kaduna State civil servants will take effect from November 2024.
However, WikkiTimes gathered from multiple sources in Kaduna that the new minimum wage was not implemented for the workers.
“We had high hope but we were disappointed that the new minimum wage was not paid to us despite the promise by the governor. It is really sad considering the current economic reality,” said a civil servant, Bala Mukhtar.
WikkiTimes gathered that some civil servants in the state on grade level 8 got their normal salary of less than N70,000 for the month of November.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kaduna State Chapter Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman told WikkiTimes in a phone interview that the union is gathering information from their members before they make official announcement on the development.
“We are in the process of gathering empirical evidences, especially the discrepancies in the payment of the so-called minimum wage”, Suleiman said.
He said the NLC will hold a press briefing on Friday to address the latest development.
The Kaduna State Head of Service Hajia Habiba Shekarau told WikkiTimes that she would find out the true situation from the state Ministry of Finance and revert. She was yet to revert as at the time of the press.
