The Plateau Government has expressed delight over improvement in mass vaccination against COVID -19 across the state, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Dan Manjang, has said.
Manjang stated this at a news briefing at the end of the meeting of the State Executive Council at Government House, Jos, on Wednesday.
He said records showed that more residents were partaking in the mass vaccination exercise, saying , ” the turnout of residents for vaccination and testing for COVID-19 is encouraging in spite of conspiracy theories”.
He said the state had received more vaccines in addition to the previously supplied 105,600 doses of Oxford Astrazenaca vaccines supplied to the state in March, to ensure wide coverage.
The commissioner encouraged residents yet to be administered the vaccine to take advantage of the additional supply of the Astrazenaca and Moderna vaccine doses in the state, to protect themselves against the deadly disease.
He said that more that 80, 375 persons had so far been tested for the virus in the state, saying the state had recorded 61 deaths, so far.
He also said that the state had recorded 33 deaths as a result of cholera outbreak out of the 1515 cases recorded, urging residents of the state to imbibe healthy habits.
Manjang said that the State Government had approved the supply and installation of hospital equipment at two General Hospitals in Mabudi in Langtang South and in Kwall of Kanke Local Government Area at the cost of N957,285, each .
“The council also approved variations for the ongoing construction of Angwan Rogo road network and bridge at the cost of N375 million,”he said.
He also said that a valedictory session was held for three commissioners who would be relinquishing their position to contest for the forthcoming local government elections in the state .
The commissioners are: Alhaji Dayyabu Garga, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development contesting for Chairman of Kanam Local Government, Mr Kakmena Goteng, Commissioner for Higher Education, contesting for Chairman of Pankshin Local Government and Mr Zulfa Bitrus, Commissioner for Housing, contesting for the Chairman of Langang all on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Manjang said their resignation was with effect from Sept. 9, and was in compliance with the Plateau Local Government Council Law to resign 30 days before its election.
He said Mr Bitrus Spoke on behalf of the three outgoing commissioners, thanking Gov. Simon Lalong and the people of the state for giving them the opportunity to serve.(NAN)
