Power outage: BAHA Speaker assures constituents of power restoration

Speaker of the Bauchi State of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman has assured people of his Ningi Central Constituency of restoration of electricity in Ningi, Ganjuwa and Warji local governments after more than three months of blackout due to destruction of electric poles by heavy downpour.

The Speaker explained that upon reception of the report of the disruption of power supply in the area, he moved a motion calling on the state government to repair the collapsed poles and immediately restore electricity in the area.

“We made a resolution on the matter and similar problems in other local governments and transmitted it to the Executive Arm for immediate action.

“I later met with the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of Ningi, Warji and Ganjuwa local governments and discussed extensively on how to tackle the problem and prevent future reoccurrence because every year we face power outages in these areas due to rainfall.

“I later met with His Excellency Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad for his immediate intervention. The Governor immediately set up a Taskforce Committee to restore electricity in all areas facing the problem across the State.

“This is apart from the letter I wrote to the Headquarters of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and my subsequent discussion with the Managing Director on the matter.

The Taskforce Committee is currently working with JEDC officials on Bauchi-Ningi highway fixing the collapsed poles and other electric appliances”, the Speaker narrated.

Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman who frown at the slow phase of the repairs said he has already discussed with the Commissioner of Bauchi State Ministry of Power and the Regional Manager of JEDC who assured him that despite the difficulties of accessing some areas by their vehicles due to rain, work on Bauchi-Ningi line will be accelerated and electricity will be restored to Ningi, Warji and Ganjuwa local governments within shortest period.

The Speaker who once again sympathized with residents of Ningi and other areas affected by the prolonged blackout, urged them to exercise more patience as he will never relent until light is restored.
