The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has said that armed forces will not fold their arms and watch hoodlums destabilize the country.
WikkiTimes reports that police clampdown on #endbadgovernance protesters have left 14 dead in northern Nigeria.
Gen. Musa, while briefing the media Friday evening said the recent looting and destruction of properties by hoodlums under the guise of protest will not be condoned by the armed forces.
The CDS said it is disheartening that in just one day of the protest, the country has witnessed massive destruction, wondering what might happen if it continues.
“Let us avoid anything that may bring mayhem to our communities. Yesterday we have seen the level of destruction, just yesterday so you can imagine if this continues for so long.
“The armed forces and the entire security agencies will not stand by and see this continue. We will not fold our arms and see the county destroyed. We will take action and the action we will take, will take it professionally”, he said.
WikkiTimes recalled that there were reports of use of force by security operatives deployed to provide security to the protesters including several harassment and arrests of journalists covering the events.
