The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State has threatened to take legal action against the state government for failing to respond to a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2011.
WikkiTimes reports that PRP has written to the state government through the office of the Accountant General (AG) of the State requesting debt profile, statutory allocation details, and government expenditure.
In a letter sighted by WikkiTimes and addressed to the AG, the PRP demanded information on the state government’s debt profile, statutory allocations, financial interventions, and expenditure.
The party’s State Secretary, Hon. Abdulazeez Haruna, expressed disappointment that the request, submitted on September 2, 2024, had not received a response despite the seven-day deadline stipulated by the FOIA.
Haruna warned that failure to provide the requested information within the next 14 days would be seen as an attempt to evade transparency and accountability, and the party would not hesitate to take legal action to enforce its right to access the information.
The PRP emphasized the importance of transparent and accountable governance, stating that the requested information is essential for public understanding and scrutiny of the state government’s financial activities.
